Modulight Spotlights: LASER-SHARP RESEARCH – July 2025

The spotlight of the month goes to Andrew Langley et al. at Tufts University, USA, for their impressive work in leveraging photoacoustic imaging for real-time monitoring of phototherapy. Photoacoustic imaging is 3D, non-ionizing and non-invasive imaging method, based on optical absorption that creates pressure waves detected by ultrasound transducer.

Chen-Hua Ma et al. Optical Therapeutics & Nanotechnology Laboratory at University of Maryland combined photoimmunotherapy with ethanol ablation to achieve improved drug retention and light penetration, especially important for treating pigmented organs like liver and pancreas. Modulight’s ML7710 laser was used for both therapeutic activation of the nanoconstruct, as well as for theranostic monitoring of the process.
