Vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) emit light perpendicular to the semiconductor wafer surface rather than from the edge of the device. Their vertical cavity architecture enables compact devices with well-defined beam characteristics, low beam divergence, and efficient wafer-level manufacturing.
VCSELs can provide high-speed modulation and, depending on the device design, single-frequency operation and high beam quality. Output power can be scaled by combining multiple emitters into arrays, with emitter spacing and array geometry adapted to the intended application.
Modulight’s VCSEL portfolio includes array-based products and supports applications requiring compact, scalable semiconductor laser sources.
