Diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSLs) use semiconductor laser diodes to optically pump a solid-state gain medium. This architecture combines efficient semiconductor pumping with the optical properties of solid-state laser materials and can provide stable, high-quality laser output.
DPSSL technology can be used when the application requires a combination of wavelength, beam quality, output power, and operational stability that is not readily achieved with a directly emitting semiconductor laser. The architecture also enables wavelength conversion and other optical configurations.
