Modulight introduces high-power TO-can red lasers

Tampere, Finland, November 1st, 2007 – Modulight’s hot-red ChiliLase family gladly welcomes its new generation of lasers: the TO-can, single-emitter red lasers. Modulight’s new laser release includes 3 different products:

  • ML1468 – 635 nm, 200 mW in a 9 mm TO-can
  • ML1504 – 635 nm, 500 mW in a 9 mm TO-can
  • ML1469 – 690 nm, 350 mW in a 9 mm TO-can

These high performance laser products are designed for use in applications requiring high optical power from a small emitter area and a compact package ready for system integration. The proven ChiliLase design allows an up to 10-fold increase in the delivered optical power at 635 nm compared to typical devices currently available on the market. Applications directly benefiting from this release include: laser pointers for dusty and underwater environments, entertainment industry, distance measurement, laser illumination, and medical applications, like treatment of acne and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The laser emitters are packaged in rugged 9 mm TO-cans and the user is presented with a selection of TO-can optics, from flat-windows to ball lenses. The low divergence of the output laser beam as well as the narrow emitter design (50 um and 100 um) make these laser devices ideal for beam collimation or fiber coupling. In addition, the improved slope efficiency (~0.95 W/A) renders these devices suitable for equipment having severe power consumption limitations.
