The study investigated the potential of mirabody technology for EGFR-targeted photoimmunotherapy. Instead of typically used antibody for IR700 dye conjugation in photoimmunotherapy, mirabody (engineered cyclic protein based on Fc region of IgG) could offer improved penetration into solid tumors thanks to smaller size. Engineered mirabodies showed cancer cell-target specific binding and cytotoxicity in vitro. In mouse xenograft models mirabody-based photoimmunotherapy together with ML7710 showed tumor accumulation and effective tumor growth suppression in dose-dependent manner.
