Heterogenous oxygen consumption during PDT is correlated with treatment response. Monitoring blood oxygen saturation also during PDT using ultrasound-guided photoacoustic imaging was shown to be a useful marker for long-term efficacy of PDT and inform dose design for treatment decisions. ML6600 was used for PDT together with BPD photosensitizer in vivo through a custom-designed four-way source-split optical fibers. All four fiber holders were angled at 10º from the elliptical plane, which allowed uniform illumination of the entire tumor.
