Modulight Spotlights: LASER-SHARP RESEARCH – August 2026

A fresh publication from Tayyaba Hasan lab at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School has introduced a new solution for antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains. The team developed photoactivatable nanocarriers to enable co-delivery of antibiotic minocycline together with a light-sensitive compound into bacterial cells. When activated with a low intensity 690 nm light using the ML6600 laser, the combination therapy was synergistic in eradicating MRSA (methicillin-resistant S. aureus). The light activation was able to promote intracellular drug retention and thus increase the susceptibility of MRSA to the antibiotic. Novel solutions like this are especially important in the era of growing antibiotic resistance and shortage of new antibiotics.

Modulight is very happy to be supporting this research. We would like to deliver our warmest congratulations to the research team!

About Modulight’s LASER-SHARP RESEARCH concept:

Laser-Sharp Research is a concept where our scientific board highlights cutting-edge scientific research articles from our customers. Important selection criteria are that Modulight and laser product are mentioned in the publication, the impact and relevance of the results, clinical translatability, as well as scientific quality of the journal. The nominated research groups will be rewarded to encourage the great work done.
