Modulight Spotlights: LASER-SHARP RESEARCH – June 2026

The research spotlight goes this month to the research teams led by Dr. Timothy Baran and Dr. Nicole Wilson at the University of Rochester Medical Center for their novel study on perforated appendicitis. This is a common and morbid pediatric surgical condition frequently requiring prolonged antibiotic therapy, with the major issue of antibiotic resistance. The study investigated feasibility of laser-activated therapy with methylene blue as a targeted, resistance-independent treatment for perforated appendicitis. Rabbits were treated with ML7710 laser through laparoscopic guidance. Therapy was feasible and safe with no off-target histologic injury, showing promise for a new intra-abdominal disinfection strategy.

Modulight is very happy to be supporting this research. We would like to deliver our warmest congratulations to the research team!

About Modulight’s LASER-SHARP RESEARCH concept:

Laser-Sharp Research is a concept where our scientific board highlights cutting-edge scientific research articles from our customers. Important selection criteria are that Modulight and laser product are mentioned in the publication, the impact and relevance of the results, clinical translatability, as well as scientific quality of the journal. The nominated research groups will be rewarded to encourage the great work done.
