Modulight Spotlights: LASER-SHARP RESEARCH – April 2026
This month we are pleased to highlight new interesting article by Naoya Kondo and the team at Kansai Medical University in Japan. They developed a cancer cell-targeted photoimmunotherapy compound consisting of IR700 photoabsorber conjugated to bicyclic peptide. Use of small peptide could speed drug clearance from the body and decrease manufacturing cost compared to antibody-based photoimmunotherapy, which is clinically used in several oncology institutions in Japan. The compound was shown to bind to cancer cells and trigger rapid membrane blebbing and cell death when activated with 689 nm laser wavelength. Compound also accumulated within tumors and significantly suppressed tumor growth in response to tumor-directed irradiation with the ML7710 medical laser.
Modulight is very happy to be supporting this research. We would like to deliver our warmest congratulations to the research team!
