Modulight Spotlights: LASER-SHARP RESEARCH – January 2026

The highlight of the month goes to teams of researchers led by Prof. Imran Rizvi at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Their latest publication shows that certain light-activated therapy with BPD photosensitizer and ML6600 laser can induce ferroptosis-like cell death, including formation of lipid peroxides, in ovarian cancer cells. This is a promising finding since cancer resistance to apoptosis is a major driver for chemotherapy failure and poor survival in high-grade serous ovarian cancer. Hence, ferroptosis-driven cell death induced by light activation could offer precise and systemically minimally toxic therapy for chemo-resistant tumors in future.

Modulight is very happy to be supporting this research. We would like to deliver our warmest congratulations to the research team!

About Modulight’s LASER-SHARP RESEARCH concept:

Laser-Sharp Research is a concept where our scientific board highlights cutting-edge scientific research articles from our customers. Important selection criteria are that Modulight and laser product are mentioned in the publication, the impact and relevance of the results, clinical translatability, as well as scientific quality of the journal. The nominated research groups will be rewarded to encourage the great work done.
