Modulight Spotlights: LASER-SHARP RESEARCH – July 2025
The spotlight of the month goes to Andrew Langley et al. at Tufts University, USA, for their impressive work in leveraging photoacoustic imaging for real-time monitoring of phototherapy. Photoacoustic imaging is 3D, non-ionizing and non-invasive imaging method, based on optical absorption that creates pressure waves detected by ultrasound transducer. The researchers used photoacoustic fibers and ultrasound in combination with ML6600 laser to successfully monitor blood oxygen saturation levels during phototherapy, serving as a marker for oxygen utilization and vascular response. These observations can in future benefit in light dosing decisions and even in predicting long-term outcomes of phototherapies.
Modulight is very happy to be supporting this research. We would like to deliver our warmest congratulations to the research team!
