Modulight Spotlights: LASER-SHARP RESEARCH – June 2025

The highlight of the month goes to Chen-Hua Ma et al. at Optical Therapeutics & Nanotechnology Laboratory, University of Maryland. The team combined photoimmunotherapy with ethanol ablation to achieve improved drug retention and light penetration, especially important for treating pigmented organs like liver and pancreas. Modulight’s ML7710 laser was used for both therapeutic activation of the nanoconstruct, as well as for theranostic monitoring of the process. It was discovered that fluorescence signal measured by ML7710 could be detected at longest distances in the tissue when ethyl cellulose was part of the construct, improving light distribution. Also, decrease in fluorescence signal during treatment was linearly related to light dose, implying a predictable treatment response.

Modulight is very happy to be supporting this research. We would like to deliver our warmest congratulations to the research team!
