Modulight Spotlights: LASER-SHARP RESEARCH – April 2025
This month it is time to highlight a promising study by Sumeyra Gokalp et al. from University of Massachusetts and Tufts University, USA. Clinical application of many photosensitive drugs is constrained by poor solubility, rapid clearance, and inadequate tumor accumulation. To tackle these drug delivery challenges, researchers constructed an innovative liquid metal nanoparticle platform, which has tumor cell targeting and enhanced encapsulation of verteporfin. Extensive in vitro characterization with the help of ML6600 laser showed effective in vitro phototoxicity, high drug release, good photostability, and biocompatibility. Integration of better drug delivery, light-activated therapy, and imaging capabilities within a single platform makes it attractive candidate for more effective and personalized cancer therapy.
Modulight is very happy to be supporting this research. We would like to deliver our warmest congratulations to the research team!
