Dr. Merrill Biel is an Otolaryngologist – Head and Neck Surgical Oncologist at Ear, Nose and Throat Specialty Care of Minnesota and Medical Director of Head and Neck Oncology at the Virginia Piper Cancer Institute at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He is a Professor in the Departments of Surgery, Otolaryngology, Family Practice and in the Schools of Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Minnesota. He has been involved in the development and treatment of Head and Neck Cancers with PDT since 1990, as well as antimicrobial applications of PDT.
Prof. Colin Hopper, Eastman Dental Institute, University College London

Prof. Hopper leads a variety of research projects on the use of photodynamic therapy in the treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma. This program is currently one of the largest in the world using the three main photosensitizers. Dr. Hopper is the principal investigator on a series of ethically approved projects. His work has resulted in a number of publications and helped establish a clear role for this treatment in a variety of neoplastic conditions in the head and neck. Other related areas of research are fluorescence diagnostics (optical techniques for tissue interrogation) and the use of PDT in the treatment of non-malignant conditions such as neurofibromatosis.
Dr. Brian P. Marr, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Dr. Marr is board-certified ophthalmologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He is one of the very few ocular oncologists trained in all aspects of eye cancer, and his clinical experience in treating these diseases is among the most extensive in the US. He received his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed his medical training at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in New York City and a fellowship in ocular oncology at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Marr is currently conducting research on protonomics of the human vitreous. He is the author of numerous articles and book chapters.
Prof. Serge R. Mordon, PhD

Prof. Mordon, PhD is working in Lille, France for the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM). He is the director of INSERM U 1189 (Laser Therapies Assisted by Image and Simulation for Oncology) and the director of the Photomedicine Center (Lille University Hospital). Since 1981, he has been involved in the medical applications of lasers, particularly in dermatology and plastic surgery. More recently, he has focused his research on Focal Laser Ablation and Photodynamic Therapy. He is an internationally recognized expert in laser-tissues interaction and laser applications in medicine. He has authored over 400 articles and book chapters. Pr. Mordon is the author of sixteen issued patents. Since 2012, he holds a Master Degree in Strategy and Organization Management (University of Paris X). He is the President of The French Medical Laser Society and Board Member of several professional societies. He is an associate editor of the editorial board for the journal, Lasers in Surgery and Medicine.

Dr. Teuvo Tammela is a specialist in urology and surgery. He is a meritorious scientist especially for his prostate cancer studies. He has combined clinical and epidemiologic research with a high class fundamental research, resulting in findings which have significantly improved the diagnostics and treatment of prostate cancer. As a leading clinician at Tampere University Hospital, Professor Tammela has created the Clinic of Urology to be a modern, efficient and internationally known unit, which treats the patient making use of the most recent studies, for example the robot assisted urologic surgery. Currently Professor Tammela is the chairperson of the Board of the Cancer Society of Finland.

Dr. Wolfsen’s research has focused on the diagnosis and endoscopic treatment of Barrett’s disease and early esophageal cancer. This includes the development and optimized utilization of diagnostic endoscopic techniques such as confocal laser endomicroscopy and spectroscopy (fluorescent, light scattering and diffuse reflectance), as well as endoscopic resection and ablation using modalities such as photodynamic therapy, carbon dioxide and liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, and radiofrequency ablation.
