Optical Engineer
Responsibilities
- Development and application of devices that use light and optics. These could be anything from a basic telescope to a high-tech medical laser
- Develop and execute alignment procedures for complex optical systems given the optical prescription and system requirements
- Independent optical engineering contributor in an inter-disciplinary program team
- Designing, constructing, documenting and evaluating new optical laser products
- Optical system design with lenses, diffractive elements, fibers and active elements
- Perform data analysis/processing using industry standard software (Zemax, Code V, 4Sight, MetroPro, MATLAB etc.)
- Provide technical solutions to various optics related problems
- Provide thorough documentation of work performed
- Develop plans and procedures for fabrication of components, and for assembly, test and integration of optical systems
- Serve as technical interface to optical component suppliers
- Conduct engineering analyses and evaluation of optical systems
- The successful candidate will contribute to the research and engineering of the next generation laser products as well as provide support to existing products
- Contributing new and unique ideas as a member of a highly skilled technical team
Qualifications
- Passionate about optics and lasers
- CW and pulsed light measurements skills down to ps level
- Have a deep understanding of optical principles and design
- Experience designing optical components and assemblies
- SM and MM fibers and fiber optic components hands-on experience
- Knowledge of semiconductor laser operation, optical beam shaping and optics & mechanics 3D design
- Handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously within a rapidly changing environment
- Have a curious demeanour and enjoy solving difficult problems
- Experience with MATLAB or Python is considered a plus
- Team-player who both shares and also listens
- As a member of the engineering team, this position will work closely with other engineers in the design and development of state-of-the-art laser industry. The successful candidate must excel in a project team environment, be able to find solutions to problems from rough requirements and have a commitment to high product quality
- Good technical documentation skills in written English
- Organized, methodical and careful with Strong self-motivation
- BS in Optical Engineering or Physics
- Excellent oral, written and presentation skills for interfacing with senior management and customers as well as mentoring of younger engineers
- Proven ability to work well in a team environment
