At Modulight, we design and manufacture lasers and optics for personalized medicine and better life. We provide biomedical lasers for oncology, genetics, and ophthalmology, supporting laser solutions like system integration service and laser design & manufacturing. We also work in other high-tech fields, including lasers and systems to digital printing, sensing, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence.

About the HW Design Engineer Role

We are a passionate team working on best-in-class medical products in the fields of Oncology, Ophthalmology, and Genetics and Diagnostics, and products for other high value-add applications like Quantum Computing. We are looking for a creative, smart and driven individual that enjoys solving complex problems.

You will be expected to independently perform a variety of tasks, from board design, and component selection, to layout review and board bring-up and test. As an experienced member of the team, you will be responsible for identifying top level requirements and ensuring high product quality and innovative designs are pursued. You are not afraid to gradually take ownership and responsibility of the entire product’s electronics and electromechanical design. You will work across diverse teams and support other Modulight engineering projects through collaboration, design review and the development of electrical engineering practices. Working facilities is our Laser Factory in Tampere, Finland.

About You

  • Passion: You may have you own electronics hobby project, and your tech interests may cover also other areas beyond electronics and electrical engineering, such as mechanics and FW.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in hardware design for electronic devices
  • Experience with electrical circuit design, including schematic design and basic PCB layout design using modern CAD/CAM tools.
  • Experience with measurement, troubleshooting and debug skills in a lab environment
  • Master’s degree in electronics, electrical engineering, automation engineering or equivalent field is required.
  • Good communication skills, fluent written and spoken English
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to carry new design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment/construction

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in hardware development across full product life cycles – concept to production
  • Experience with microcontrollers and sensors
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering technology, digital signal processing (DSP), high-speed architectures or equivalent experience
  • Analogue electronics design experience
  • Ability to apply critical thinking in complex situations; experience in working in cross-functional groups including mechanical engineering, software engineering, and device assembly.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages such as Python or C/C++
  • Knowledge and experience related to electromechanical and thermal design, optics and lasers
